Over the ages, many martial art forms developed on the islands of the Ryukyu archipelago.

Master Kanyro Higashionna is credited with the development and formalization of the art of open-handed combat that today we call karate.

One of his top students, Master Chojun Miyagi, was the founder of Goju Ryu.  In turn, master Masanobu Shinjo devoted much of his martial arts career to the study of Miyagi’s teachings, and established the Shobukan federation that we are affiliated with.

Shinko and Shinpo Matayoshi developed a

complex weapons fighting system that has been incorporated into Shobukan along with the ancient grappling art of Jujitsu.

See More on our History page for details on each discipline and Master.

To our traditional Okinawan style dojo.  We offer martial arts classes in a family friendly setting where kids, parents, grandparents and friends are encouraged to train together.

As a family run dojo we keep prices affordable and require no contracts.

We teach three disciplines at our dojo that offer a student of martial arts access to the world’s most powerful and effective self-defense systems.

Goju Ryu  (traditional Okinawan karate)

Matayoshi Kobudo (Okinawan weapons fighting system)

Shorinji Aiki Jujitsu (Japanese grappling and wrestling martial art)

See MORE on our Styles page for details on each fighting system as well as our dojo philosophy, etiquette, and expected code of conduct.

Instructors Ray Peet and Richard Mustafa are devoted to the practical application of these true traditional martial art forms and teach in a traditional Okinawan dojo setting.

Emphasis is placed on proper form, structured training sessions, practical real-world application, and respect for the art’s heritage.

Nick Peet and Craig Stewart, both senior belts and long-term students of the academy also instruct class.

See MORE on our Instructors page that gives a profile on each teacher (Sensei).

We offer children’s classes, beginner/intermediate classes for teens and adults, as well as advanced black belt classes.

Classes are in the evenings, Monday through Thursday, and we offer an open training session during the day on Saturdays.

Why should you or your child take a class?

See MORE on our Classes page for details on our schedule and reasons to train.
